Difference between distance and displacement.

Distance : It is the length or path in between any two points is called distance. As shown in below. 

A----------------B      Here A and B are points. 

  • Distance has always positive value. It can never be zero and negative value.
  • Distance is a scalar quantity. It has only magnitude.


Displacement : It is the distance or length or bath in between any two points and a body covers this distance or length in a particular direction is called displacement. As shown in below. 

A------>------>------B     Here A and B are points. Body is moving from point A to point B (in a particular direction).

  • Displacement has positive,  negative  and zero value. 
  • Displacement is a vector quantity. It has magnitude as well as direction.
